photographer 571802 Throughly addictive, ‘Swing’ partnered dancing is shared by many, particularly the young in its re-emergence in capital cities around Australia. Cultivated from the music era of prohibition & war, jazz inspires these proponents with energetic & limitless improvisation. Modern contemporary dance owes a lot to traditional jazz music, and ‘Swing’ incorporates these movements in its rawest form.These portraits were taken throughout the night, were one contemplates the various dance’s had & those still yet to come. The use of a warm orange cast was to highlight this transitional period. The images are simply lit, the subjects raw, dishevelled & slightly sweaty. Each bouting skater adopts an pseudonym, which can be personified either on the track or off it.Integral to this spectacle, uniforms are customized so each skater can retain a sense of ‘individuality’ whilst being recognized within the same team uniform theme.
